Let's sit down and warm up the National NC-155 receiver and the Knight-Kit transmitter on the 80 meter CW band. Sounds pretty crowded this evening!   There is a station calling CQ close to my crystal frequency of 3.718 kcs. Let's respond to his call and see if he can copy my signal from this station.

"CQ...CQ...CQ...DE...WN1DJI...WN1DJI...WN1DJI...K............WN1DJI...WN1DJI...DE...WN2RCB...WN2RCB...K"

"WN2RCB...WN2RCB...DE...WN1DJI...Tnx for the call...ur rst is 589...589...hr in Lakeville, Conn...name is Scott"...........

And so it goes for your first QSO as a new Novice. I'm sure you were nervous, as was I, but once you hear that other station calling you, the jitters will subside and you will be hooked on the hobby. Incidentally, Scott, WN1DJI was my first contact as a Novice on January 12th 1965. If you look closely at the picture, you will see Scott's card proudly displayed on my wall.

Here is my old station back on the air after 40+ years!  I still have all of the old QSL's pictured above and will someday dedicate a part of my present station to this station.
